Frequently asked questions

Got questions? I’ve got answers.

  • At this time, I offer telehealth therapy services throughout the state of Ohio.

If you are interested in coaching, I also offer those virtually, but am able to work with anyone inside the US.

  • Virtual therapy, also known as online therapy or teletherapy, is a form of counseling or mental health treatment provided remotely through digital communication platforms (I conduct sessions through a company called Simple Practice). Here's how it typically works:

    1. **Scheduling Sessions:** Once you've found a therapist you're comfortable with, you schedule virtual therapy sessions at mutually convenient times. These sessions can often be more flexible than in-person appointments, as they eliminate the need for travel time.

    2. **Connectivity:** On the day of your session, you'll connect with me through my secure video conferencing platform (Simple Practice). It's important to ensure you have a stable internet connection and a private, quiet space where you feel comfortable talking openly.

    3. **The Session:** Just like in traditional therapy, you'll have a one-on-one session with me where you can discuss your concerns, feelings, and experiences. As your therapist, I will listen attentively, provide support, and offer guidance or techniques to help you navigate challenges and achieve your therapeutic goals.

    4. **Tools and Resources:** Resources and tools are my love language! Depending on the nature of our conversation, we may utilize worksheets, articles, videos, etc. to enhance the work we are doing. If the resource is a link, I am able to send those via chat in the session. If the resource is a document, I can send it through the Simple Practice portal or via email; depending on your preference.

5**Confidentiality:** Virtual therapy platforms prioritize your privacy and confidentiality, employing encryption and secure servers to protect your personal information. However, it's essential to discuss confidentiality policies and any potential limitations with me to ensure you feel comfortable and secure during sessions.

    6. **Follow-Up:** After each session, you and I may discuss goals, progress, and any assignments or exercises to work on between sessions. Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled as needed to maintain continuity of care and support your ongoing mental health journey.

Overall, virtual therapy offers a convenient and accessible way to access mental health support from the comfort of your own environment, making it particularly beneficial for those with busy schedules, mobility limitations, or those who prefer the convenience and privacy of remote counseling.

  • For Therapy Services:

Typically I spend the first 5-10 minutes reviewing logistical aspects of therapy (review forms signed before initial session, communication outside of sessions, steps to take when having connectivity issues). The next 20-30 minutes are your time to share a little more about why you are seeking services and for us to review the New Client Intake Form together. The last 15-20 minutes of the session move into initial insights into treatment and diagnosis, working collaboratively to set treatment goals, and cadence for how often we will meet in the future. Overall, I like to use this time to build rapport and get to know one another. In my opinion, the most important aspect of the Intake Session is building trust. Without it, you as the client will not feel safe opening up, which is what therapy is all about! So come with an open-mind and curiosity. Also totally normal to be nervous! : )

    For Career Coaching:

You can expect the first session to be focused on rapport building and goal setting. Depending on what you are seeking coaching services for/what package you’ve chosen, we will talk through the logistics of that package. This might look like the cadence for sessions, instructions on how to complete career-focused assessments, and gathering additional insight related to what is causing you to seek coaching services. While I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, I do not provide a mental health diagnosis while in my role as a coach. If you feel like individual therapy is a better match for the support you are looking for, please find additional details on the Individual Therapy Speciality Page.

  • It depends on your goals for therapy and severity of symptoms. On average you can expect at least 8-12 sessions minimum.

  • Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises

You deserve to have someone sitting across from you who understands some aspect of what you are struggling with. I take the time to build a strong relationship with my clients and never forget what the perspective of being the client, feels like. I take a collaborative and holistic approach. I believe you are the expert in the room and know that work challenges don’t happen in a vacuum and vice versa when it comes to mental health struggles.
